Minimini’s ZEOvit tank in Japan

By on Aug 14, 2012

We always love Japanese reef tanks because their style is a little bit different than European or American styles.  I think Minimini’s tank is one example of a great ZEOvit tank with aquascaping that is very dynamic!

From the appearances it looks like he switched lighting system from LED to T5 which is definitely a reversal of most lighting trends as they make their way towards LED lighting.  According to his blog, he really loves T5 light for his ZEOvit tank and we don’t blame him as T5 lighting has produced some incredible colors on hard corals.  Unfortunately, I could not find the detail of his tank system, but you might be able to find some information from his blog.  As you can plainly see, all the SPS in his tank are extremely colorful and look very healthy.

Is it just me or are their too many SPS tanks that are taller than they need to be? The rock work is awesome, but the tops of too many SPS varieties kind of makes the top the singular focus and the rest seems like almost wasted space. I’ve seen so many SPS tanks where this huge garden of SPS just shades the lower half of the tank.

perhaps there are plans to add more lps to the bottom? also i feel that leaving open space helps to increase flow through the tank

I’m sure it does increase the flow through the tank. The problem with adding more LPS to the bottom is that they don’t pop because of the shading. You can make out some really nice LPS in the bottom, but they don’t look nearly as nice as they could because of the shading.
