Finally the day has come when Royal Exclusiv decided to finally release their complete new Red Dragon II line. We’ve been following tidbits we’ve been getting over the past few months, but some of the advantages we’ve been able to translate are:
No 50/60hz hum, like normal AC Pumps
Available models from 16,000l/h (4,200 GPH) to 50,000l/h (13,208 GPH)
100% Controlled Drives with either external or integrated controller
Adjustable from 10-100%
“The most energy efficient pumps on the market”
Unbreakable Titanium axles with Silicon Carbide (SiC) Bearings
Integrated Soft Start
Keep in my we are trying to translate from German, and our German last we checked was a bit rusty. Overall all pumps are either getting a boast in GPH and some are getting a slight boast in watt usage. Check out the high res gallery below.
Our coverage of MACNA will begin in less than two weeks. As such were asking if your going to be there to join in with the biggest saltwater tradeshow in the United States? If not, don’t worry we will have 24 hour coverage of everything MACNA. Anything in particular that you want us to cover? Respond in comments!
We acquired this live action shot video of Fauna Marin’s newest line of protein skimmers dubbed the blue line. Here you’ll see a Ultra Life skim 3 in action. Enjoy!
You’ll remember us telling you about the Elos price increase a few days ago. Over the past week the Euro had dropped about 10 cents to the American Dollar. As such we think that it might be possible that the price increased for Elos products might be stalled to see how the market shapes up. We have received no word from Elos about the price increased even with a promised August 7th date. We aren’t complaining about not having a price increase, we would just like a straight yes or no answer and what products have been decided upon.
Over 20,000 people were involved in removing algae off the coast of Qingdao, China. This city of course is host to the Olympic sailing regatta and the algae must be removed. China’s news agency reported that over one third of the waters designated for the Olmypic competition was covered. Untreated sewage has been dumped into the sea, rivers and tributaries by Chinese coastal cities. What’s in the waste? Nitrates. The same nitrates that play havoc with your home reef aquarium. Apprently this hasn’t been in the first time in which this algae has been a problem, as red tides of algae bloom along sections of China’s coastline in months past. Granted the Chinese government denies any such pollution from facotries or raw sewage from being put into the coast. That sounds like any proud governement, however we are just glad this won’t interfere with the sailing races.
Details finally came out for Red Sea’s newest product, the C-Skim 1200. You’ll remember that we did mention the C-Skim protein skimmer a few months ago at Interzoo 2008 with Red Sea’s arrival of the Red Sea Max 250. The C-Skim features: highly effective skim reactor, Integral neck washing system, FoamView™ skim adjustment window, 450 lph (120 gph) air injection, Stand-alone or In-sump. Of all those features the one that caught our eye the most is of course the neck washing system. “The patent pending integrated neck washing system developed specifically for the C-Skim diverts the water from the skim chamber to an annular spray ring around the top of the neck that sprays concentrated jets of water onto the inside of the neck, washing all of the accumulated sludge back into the reaction chamber. Returning the water flow back to the skim chamber flushes the sludge into the collection cup for easy disposal.” Taking up a footprint of 13.4 x 10 inch including aspiration pump and having a height of 21 1/4 inches we are very interested to see how this protein skimmer performs. For tanks up to 100 gallons with heavy SPS stocking or up to 175 gallons for heavy LPS stocking. No word on price, but we don’t expect this to be a budget hobbyist skimmer.
You’ll remember the Super Marin 300 from Royal Exclusive we’ve showed you in times past? We can finally put a price on the dual pump monster. Hitting the US shores at a retail of $2049, not as much as we expected especially since it comes standard with 2 red dragon pumps. Royal Exclusive’s self cleaning head units got priced as well, hitting for a cool $1250. Available now. We don’t know of any real good excuses to get that past your girlfriend/wife/parents but it should make your life easier on general maintenance of your uber cool skimmer.
It seems Euro Reef apprently likes to sell to customers directly and is offering most if not all their products directly to the customer. Our only question is whether or not this benefits the customer any and how are the other chanel partners dealing with the news? Also for the record we are still patiently awaiting the euro reef hang on back skimmer to arrive.
So if you happen to be a Euro Reef fan in need of a calcium reactor for your calcium hungry SPS tank have no fear. The model CR3 calcium reactor is finally up for order. This guy will handle your aquarium of up to 180 gallons on an average or light load. On heavy stocked systems a 125 gallon should be about all it can handle. Euro reef is touting the “euro loc” to help you change your media faster as well as offering features that are now commonplace among the calcium reactor crowd including: ph probe holder, 3 way valve for air bleed start up. The good news is that the CR3 uses a re-circulating CO2 loop (nice!). You can pick one of these up for about $400.
The new bubble king mini 180 has been updated by Royal Exclusiv to offer more air and water. Specficially the jumps from 800lph to 1200lph, and from 1500lph to 2000lph for water. This is possible by an upgraded pump, the RD1000 which will replace the RD800. Meanwhile the bubble king 200 also gets a bump in the specs department jumping from 1000lph of air to 1700lph, note to that the water amount is the same at an even 3000lph, this is made possible from the new RD1500 pump. These new skimmers received a new Volutes and venturi’s as well along with the new RE silencer. These have begun shipping to dealers and for now no price increase will happen, but we are told that it will happen very soon. Now we just want to know when the DC pumps will hit our shores?
ORA was busy today, releasing a new coral available to local fish stores. Named the “Red planet’, perhaps a pun about mars, with striking red colors we can see why. Obtained from a hobbyist from Europe, they have been working on this coral for the past two years, showing very good growth out of this SPS. “It is predominantly vivid red with how pink tips and a metallic green base. fragments of this coral closely resemble what most might call a Acropora millepora or prostrata but it grows into a tightly spaced, flat topped, true table coral as it matures.” No word on price, but we don’t expect this species to break the bank.
We knew that Royal Exclusiv would finally get to releasing their new Super Marin 300. That day has finally arrived. The Super Marin 300 uses two pumps, which both have increased lph volume with larger volutes, allowing up to 3600lph of air while using both pumps. “ The body is made of 300mm (11 ¾”) Diameter Cast Acrylic & the height of the skimmer is 600mm (23 5/8”). Base plate is 330mm (13”), the actual width by length including the riser pipe is 16”x 13”. Depending on which pump is mounted on which side, the base dimensions will be: 23 7/8” x 20 7/8” or 21” 7/8” x 24 3/8”.’ The main pump, which is a RD2000, uses max of 45 watts, the secondary pump which isa Mini RD 1500 uses 38 watts. Interesting too is too is each pump has a ozone bypass (yay!) valve which a lot of ozone users just let out a heavy sigh of relief, along with silencers. The Super Marin 300 works with Royal Exclusiv’s self cleaning head unit and these are already shipping to dealers. No word on price but we don’t expect these units to come cheap. However the good news is that due to high demand these are being shipped to North American before Europe. Be sure to check out the gallery below.
Those spy photos we got our hands on earlier this year turned out to be Current’s newest system. Named the Cardiff aquarium system, it looks very similar to the Solara series, however using beveled glass on front piece gives you a unique look. Comes complete with a filtration system in the back of the aquarium which includes among other things:
Intake venturi protein skimmer
Surface-skimming overflow
Built in freshwater top-off system
Biological, mechanical and chemical filtration
Dedicated heater section with constant level water flow
Flexible return nozzle with dual outlets
Removable beveled glass top
This should be pushed out to retailers soon, and we haven’t heard of a price just yet, but we will keep you posted. Be sure to check out the gallery below.
Your probably wondering which aquarium unit to get, and if you happen to stumble upon Vitrea’s 140 liters which is roughly 38 gallons you will find good design. This model is part of their JW series and it is using dual 24 watt T5 lighting systems to support a low light reef or even a freshwater setup. Vitrea uses aluminum paneling on the front to make the aquarium stand out while using black to edge around the bottom and top panels of the aquarium. This is one aquarium you are not likely to see in states anytime soon and is reserved for only the uber exclusive class.
