Centropyge debelius, the blue mauritius pygmy angelfish is a fish that is so rare and elusive that these may be the first new photos of the species in the last several years. Although Blue Harbor succeeds in obtaining quite the resume of the rarest of the rare reef fish, C. debelius is so seldom seen or collected that this the this pygmy angelfish is a feather in the cap of Koji Wada and the gang. This freshly caught adolescent specimen still retains some of the juvenile markings of black spots in the soft dorsal and anal fins although will eventually mature into a nearly solid blue bodied adult, with attractive black wormlines on the face and breast. Don’t even start getting any wild ideas of getting your own because this fish will likely sell for the cost of a complete reef setup, a nice one.
