AngeLixir is a new amino acid food soak from Brightwell Marine which is specially formulated for marine angelfish and buterflyfish. Being able to provide quality food for fish that normally feed on sponges can be a tough task but Brightwell Aquatics has a solution that doesn’t involve maintaining a sponge farm with its new AngeLixir. A ‘proprietary’ blend of complex of free-form amino acids that mimic those found naturally in sponges turns most any food into an angelfish treat. Simply soak your food of choice in AngeLixir for five minutes and feed.
AngeLixir can be used with both frozen or freeze dried foods and the company notes “It has been our experience that natural foods, such as krill, mysis, and brine shrimp (thoroughly rinsed if frozen) are generally more readily accepted by newly introduced fishes than are most prepared foods, presumably due to familiar chemical and visual cues associated with natural prey items.”
Not only is this recommended for angelfish but works well with Moorish Idols and butterflyfish increasing your chances of successfully housing these beautiful specimens. When getting these fish acclimated to your aquarium, the initial days and hours are key to the long-term success with these finicky eaters. AngeLixir uses natural attractants and marine-derived proteins to improve feeding response and increase protein percentage of fish foods to help get your fish eating a nutritious diet as soon as possible. This doesn’t mean any hobbyist can just run out and add one of these fish to your system.
Brightwell Aquatics justifiably warns “AngeLixir is not meant to be a substitute for proper husbandry, or for making ethical decisions regarding the feasibility of maintaining spongivorous species in captivity; it is, however, an effective means of improving food palatability and nutrition, and increasing the chances of all fish species’ acceptance of unfamiliar foods.”
AngeLixir is available in 125ml, 250ml and 1L sizes and with a retail price around $18 for the 125ml to $106 for the 1L bottle.
