Arnold Schwarzenegger battled the ultimate foe in the movie Predator and that dread-locked alien with the nasty teeth proved to be dreadfully lethal for humans and unfortunately, many organisms in the Atlantic Ocean are facing the same kind of alien predator — the lionfish. We’ve given extensive coverage to this story of the invasion of lionfish, but this presentation by Mark Hixon at a TEDxYouth event in San Diego is one of the best explanations of this situation. Hixon does a good job explaining this alien’s detrimental impact on coral reef habitats in the Atlantic and reminds us our actions in the hobby carry responsibilities and consequences for our actions such as caulerpa and lionfish among other nonnative species have been introduced to our waterways.
