The Radion G5 Blue & Pro was just announced today by Ecotech Marine and it includes a laundry list of new upgrades and improvements. The larger XR30 Radion G5 is packing one hundred discrete LEDs plus two more for a new dedicated moonlight.
Each and every single LED is using a miniaturized version of the HEI lenses called the HEI2 and they are controlled across eight channels, meanwhile the moonlight has two channels of its own to control the warm white and royal blue. The Radion G5 Pro has essentially the same balance of LED colors but the Radion G5 Blue goes all in on the sapphire spectrum.
The super blue version of the Radion Gen 5 includes 40 royal blues, 24 blues, 6 violets, 8 ultraviolets, and only 2 reds and 6 cool whites to balance it all out. New for this generation of Radions are 10 Cyan LEDs and 4 Limes, so it’ll be interesting to see how these look over our beloved corals.
To make way for all those miniature lighting engines Ecotech had to move the fan to the top of the fixture but they didn’t stop there because they also completely redesigned the fan to be quieter than ever before. The new fixture is compatible with the Radion Mounting System but you’ll need a special bracket to accomodate the new top mounted fan.
We were fortunate enough to sit down with Ecotech Marine’s lead hardware engineer Justin Lawyer to have a nerdy, engineering focused discussion on what makes the fifth generation Radion so unique, before you even out it on a tank and turn it on. This exclusive clip is primarily aimed at the diehard fans of Ecotech Marine’s Radion lighting technology and we’ll be following up very soon with our own hands on, first impressions and review of both the Pro and Blue versions of the Radion Gen 5.
