The minute we found out about a 3D printed roller filter for nano tanks we couldn’t hide our excitement, while at the same time predicting that they would become the nano mechanical filter of the future. And as of today, the 31st of January 2023, we bring you news that Innovative Marine has realized that dream of ours with the announcement of the Innovative Marine Nuvo Roller.
Manual Fleece Filter for AIO
The Nuvo Roller will come in two sizes to fit all NUVO Fusion AIO DESKTOP Aquariums and all NUVO Fusion AIO MIDSIZE or FULL SIZE Aquariums. Made from cast acrylic, the roller drops into the first chamber of Fusion aquariums, replacing the supplied filter sock, while still leaving room for a protein skimmer next door. The Nuvo Roller comes supplied with a 200 micron fleece, and when it gets dirty you simply advance the spool by hand, using the knob on the front of the unit. It doesn’t have a motor, a water level sensor, or use any electricity, and multiple outlets prevent overflowing.
We’re not sure if IM worked with one of the 3D printer/designers on this or if they simply designed their own from scratch, but all manual rollers work on a similar, simple theme. They do rely on the user to advance the roll by hand, but at the same time they won’t overflow, jam or alarm if their advancement is neglected for a day or two, and that’s probably a good thing.
We also don’t know if the 6.3″ x 3.43″ x 14.57″ Desktop model or the 8.07″ x 4.5″ x 17.52″ Midsize model will fit into other makes of AIO aquarium because of that unique IM Sock holder design, but we do know that advance pre-orders are being taken from now and the first stock is expected to start shipping at the end of March. It’s another big step in the Roller Revolution and we’re so glad to see AIO mechanical filtration and nutrient export improve, while saving on labor at the same time. They’re priced at $99.99 and $149.99.
