Episode 93 was an interesting one because it coincided with Evie visiting the Reef Builders Studio in Colorado, and that meant an impromptu recording with resident Jack, Sara Stevens from Butterfly Pavillion, and long-time friend of Jake Adams Rob Mougey. Talk started about the Top 50 products and the Reef Builders Readers Poll, with everyone commenting on the success of the captive-bred fish in the Poll, including the Potters Angel from Biota, and captive breeding success from Poma Labs and Bali Aquarich.
The future is looking good for captive bred Saltwater fish and its tands to really transform the hobby, but hobby veteran Rob can remember marine tanks in the 1980s, with all the trials and tribulations that brought.
Reefstock Denver is coming up this March, its the first show of the year, and Jack and Rob have been to tons of them, with Rob’s involvement going way back. Jack first attended when he was just 12 years old and has fond memories of buying zoas for his first tank. Rob has been working closely with Jake’s wife Windsor Adams and has compiled a silent auction for the first time in ReefStock history, with the proceeds going to Reef Adams’ college fund. Both Windsor and Reef Adams will both be in attendance this year, so please make sure you come up and say hello. They will really appreciate it.
The guests talked legacy corals, many of which were made famous in the Colorado area, as well as Rob’s first “frag,” which was still the size of a colony by modern standards! They talked macroalgae tanks, first tank inspiration and the Moorish Idols that survived and thrived on a diey of Cheerios!
All that and more in this episode of Reef Therapy…
