Ecoxotic is a brand we talked about a lot ten years ago but it’s still going, with the Cannon Pro 160-watt commercial fixture offering unrivaled bang for public aquarium buck. A light designed to replace metal halides in public displays, the Cannon Pro has many features that endear it to commercial installations, not least its IP65 passively cooled body, reliable Meanwell driver, and three supplied lenses enabling it to light up and create shimmer in the deepest of public display tanks.
First, you choose the spectrum – either an RGB/White combo, a cool 10000k white, or a 460nm blue, but the chips can be changed out down the line and replaced with other colors, including a 6500k. Then you choose a lens. It comes with 60, 90, and 120-degree lenses, but a super narrow 45-degree lens is also available. Fit the snoot to prevent any light spillage, fit and angle the 360-degree swivel bracket, and that tight 160-watt point source light beam will penetrate many feet down into deep displays, only with a fraction of the heat and running costs of equivalent metal halides.
We’ve supplied public aquariums in previous roles before, and the term “commercial” can often add an extra zero when quoting for what are seen as big-money organizations. The biggest surprise with this commercial light is the price. $899.99, meaning it is well within the grasp of hobbyists craving no-frills metal halide-like light penetration too.
