EcoTech marine “developing remote control” for Vortech

It sure looks like EcoTech Marine is set to come out with a remote control of some kind for their line of Vortech pumps. A recent interview that Tim Marks did with NCIIA makes it very clear:
And EcoTech isn’t stopping at the VorTech. “We’re developing a remote control for the VorTech right now,†says Marks, “and we have a number of other products in mind. Eventually we want to launch a complete line of products for advanced aquarists, a line of products that will completely automate the reef-keeping experience.â€
We’re assuming that it would be a wireless remote control as they already utilize a control device unit that is connected to the pump via wires. The “number of other products” in mind is what has us really thinking. What will they come out with next? A wireless control interface would be great. Even better? Launching an app that works on blackberry, iPhone and the android platforms.

This is something that could be nice as my controllers are under the tank and sometimes its a pain to kick it into feed mode. However it better be cheap, REALLY cheap, as I don’t really want to spend much for the convenience of bending over to reach under the tank
Also some sort of holding bracket so you can always put it back in the same place would be ideal as I can just see it now, yet another remote control I happen to lose.

I like it, but my fish might be unhappy two hours after I get it. I agree about price. I dropped the money on the backup because that is necessity, but a remote seems like a luxury item.

Now a media player widget for a DVR or other TV set top box would be cool. Catch the weather, sports scores and “reef crest mode!”
