Blue Squamosa clams, Tridacna squamosa, remind us why we like to reef

By on May 14, 2010

Blue Squamosa clams are among the rarest invertebrates which are quasi-never available for the home reef aquarium. Therefore you can imagine our surprise when we stumbled on a benign looking booth that was packing not one, not two, but two and a half extremely beautiful blue Tridacna squamosa. You may be asking yourself what we mean by a half blue squamosa clam and bascically, the third specimen had beautiful blue markings on the interior with nice contrasting tan markings on the outer mantle. With reef gear on the brain we weren’t equipped to take proper pictures of these stunning animals but you can bet your excurrent siphon that we’ll be headed back to that booth with the underwater housing. Although InterZoo is mostly a mission to find the latest and greatest new products, it’s nice to be reminded of why we care about all these aquarium products in the first place.

Yes! I love gadgets and things that keep me from messing with the things in my tank 24/7 :) But purdy critters like this still get the heart racing!

I just stopped by this booth again to take some underwater top down shots of the three blue squamosa specimens. Will post them later.
