New Kent Marine Reef Salt Mix coming in early 2011

18

Kent Marine is releasing a new Marine Reef Salt mix in the early part of 2011. The new Kent Marine Reef Salt Mix enters the market with competition growing among high-end, quality salts geared towards higher levels of calcium and magnesium along with a cleaner and quick-dissolving formulas. Formulated with a fine grain salt and targets calcium levels at 570ppm and magnesium levels of 1450ppm in each batch making it easy to keep higher levels of these two elements right off the bat and through partial water changes. According to Kent Marine, each batch uses only the purest ingredients and the major, minor and trace elements will be blended by computer to ensure each batch is uniform and consistent.

We are glad to finally see an established company like Kent step up and get up to par with the rest of the companies on the market providing another option for savvy hobbyists when it comes to salt with their tanks. The competition as well as hobbyists are starting to dictate having a higher-grade option with more consistency and appropriate levels of major elements for hardcore reefs. While the company plans on releasing the salts in January 2011 in the UK, we aren’t sure when they will hit the North American market. Initial UK pricing is also a little shocking and we are hoping to see prices more congruent with what’s available on the market here. The MSRP on the Kent Marine Reef Salt Mix is €81.79 (around $110 USD) for a 26.3kg bucket that makes 757 l (about 200 gal.).

$110 for a bucket of salt is pathetic. Do you know what the alk is going to mix up to? Most of the top brands of salt are basically the same in regards to calcium and magnesium, For people who are dosing carbon having an alk on the lower side would be ideal. Reef crystals recently lowered theirs to around 9 where it used to mix up to around 13 which was causing alot of burnt tips on peoples SPS. IMO depending on the alk would be a deal breaker or not( well there is no deal either way thats sick). I also hate when these companies try and use the “trace elements” as a gimmick to sell their products…

Any information on how this will be different than Oceanic salt? Those buckets, jugs, and pouches appear very similar.
