Hydor’s Slim Skim Nano is about as stealth as an internal skimmer can be

12

The Hydor Slim Skim Nano is a svelte internal protein skimmer that has been a long time in the making. Powered by the unique Aero air-water mixing pump which is also found in the Slim Skim and the Aeroforce skimmers, the Slim Skim Nano actually uses a specially tuned version of the Aero which is more suited for this small size skimmer.

Like the bigger Slim Skim, the Slim Skim Nano is made of just a few pieces of acrylic which fit together in a very elegant design. Where the Nano departs from the original Slim Skim is in the use of a diffuser bell over the output of the Aero as well as a cylindrical riser tube to help guide the bubbles where they need to go, towards the skimmer cup. We’ve just fired up the SS Nano and we’ll revisit it once it has broken in but in the meantime, enjoy these first hands on pictures of Hydor’s Slim Skim Nano.

Sits very low and is nice and small. Looking forward to more pictures once it breaks in. The only thing I know I do not like is those HYDOR letters cut into the acrylic.

I like the cup design. Seems to me less annoying to clean than a remora.

We received our shipment of them last week, and just hooked one up yesterday to start breaking it in a Solana we have setup with an Ecoxotic LED on it. Unfortunately I can’t get it to fit in the same compartment as the stock skimmer on the Solana, but with an ATO hooked up on the Solana, and running the back compart configuration a little differently I can get it in the middle.

The pump being used is Hydor’s Ario pump, albeit somewhat modified. We’ll see how it goes!

What tank is that in the photos? Is that a biocube with the rim removed? Do you have to do any reinforcing if you do that?
