NanoBox 12 LED reef light is a cute little package from NanoBox Reef

By on May 20, 2011

The NanoBox 12 LED reef aquarium lights is a cute little number from NanoBox Reef which packs a lot of punch in a pico sized package. Measuring in at 12 x 4 inches and just over an inch thick (~3cm), the NanoBox can include 12 or 24 LEDs depending on the amount of power you require. The LEDs NanoBox is using are Philips Lumilux Rebel ES which are everybit as efficient as Cree’s XP series, although they are not yet well known.

NanoBox hand builds each of the NanoBox 12 LED lights with the base configuration having a 2:1 ratio of blue to white LEDs. A NanoBox with 12 LEDs will cost you $325 and one with 24 LEDs witll run about $450 and each one is dimmable so you can throttle down that amount of light to more reasonable levels for your pico or nano reef.

I just got my Biocube 14 retrofit from Dave at Nano Box, and the thing is amazing. I got the Ryujin controller with it…I can’t wait to see the storms, but it is incredibly easy to control the amount of light and simulate sunrise/sunset without having to play with dimmers. It also makes it easy to gradually acclimate my corals to the additional light they are now getting.  I will try to take a video of one of he storms and I will put it on youtube and post a link here. The upgrade was definitely worth the money.

I’ve seen these in person and they are definitely a quality product.

I kind of like that the power cord comes out the top, I’m not a fan of when the power cord comes out from one of the sides/ends.
