Reef Tank Pro is a new aquarium logging and management for iPhone and iPad

9

There’s plenty of online tank loggers but Reef Tank Pro is one of the first polished apps we’ve seen for the iPhone and iPad which is especially well suited to monitoring reef aquarium parameters. If you have just one tank to log and monitor you can use the Reef Tank Pro app for a personal log of what your reef baby is doing, but you can also keep tabs on multiple tanks. We can see the multiple tank-logging feature being especially useful to aquarium professionals; public aquariums, aquarium service techs and LFS who want to keep tabs of the various tanks they manage can have all the stats on their iPhone or iPad in order to stay intimately in touch with the aquariums they maintain.

The only killer feature missing from the Reef Tank pro app that we can see so far is being able to share your whole tank profile with other Reef Tank Pro users, or better yet a way to synchronize them in the cloud. With a sharing feature you could quickly send over the parameters of your tank to someone with whom you are consulting and with the cloud-synching feature a manager of an aquarium service company could easily see what the different reef and fish tanks are doing as the field technicians monitor and log what the various accounts are doing. The Reef Tank Pro app has just about every value you could think of testing, and it is available in the iOS App Store for $5.

Oh, I was hoping for more reviews of koi pond screensaver apps!

Seriously though, I’m going to try this today. Right now I’m using Aquaplanner which does the job but has really lousy graphs, and no photo records.

$5 for this app is too much.  I realize the cost in comparison to the hobby is nothing, but in comparison to something that takes skill and effort to code, and is not just a simple database front end, it’s price point is too high.

Take a look at Daily Data Tracker.  With minor changes it would be a better app and it’s $1.99 just one example. (Im not affiliated with any iOS product, Apple, The Appstore, or any applications)

I posted a comment in the app store, about this app!
Just like tim stratton says, its quite expensive for a app like this.
But never mind, its very use full!
Easy to set up and use, also you can make graphs for your ca.etc.etc.. a nice thing to this app.
and can add measurements, like potassium “what is not standard in the list”.
One thing what HAVES to in proof, that you can’t use dots or comma’s (./,).
That would be very use full wen writing down PH or like that.
Further more my recommendation! great app!

Can this app connect to any networked controller and record data via the internet, things like Temp/pH? That would be the biggest feature I would look for in an App, the ability to connect to any controller with network access. Otherwise it is just a harder version of Pen/Paper trying to type out things on a smartphone type device.

    No it does not.

    Ferry,
Thanks for the great rating.  We are currently looking into this.  Can you send us a screenshot of what it is you are seeing with the numeric keypad?  Please email: anthony@reeftankpro.com Thanks.

The localization fix to allow commas as separator for whole numbers and fractional numbers has been submitted to App Store.  Expect to see it in about a week.  Thanks for reporting it!
