Fishes of the Red Sea is a new forthcoming book by Jack Randall which will become the ultimate guide to all fishes found living between the shores of Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Fishes of the Red Sea is part of the comprehensive Fauna of Arabia series which is cataloging all of the animals that live in this crossroads of several major biogeographic regions. Fishes of the Red Sea will contain 1500 color photos in 700 pages and is expected to be published in late 2012, so probably in another year from now. We hope that this new book by John Randall helps to repopularize iconic marine aquarium fish like the Red Sea raccoon butterflyfish above, Red Sea dottybacks and lots of Red Sea wrasses. With Hawaii inching towards tighter collection laws it’s time someone set up shop on the shores of the Red Sea to bring back some classic marine aquarium fish.

This is timely for me…my new 50G SW setup is a Red Sea orchid dottyback biotope, with cultured Isis hippuris and photosynthetic Stereonephthya taking the place of the NPS seafans and Dendronepththya in their natural habitat. I’ll have to keep an eye out for this guide when it gets published!
