Two Little Fishes presents Tony Vargas at ReefStock 2012 in Denver Colorado

By on Dec 27, 2011

What can we say about Tony Vargas that we haven’t already said in the past year? The newly christened author of the Coral Reef Aquarium has been orchestrating a breakout/comeback year into the professional marine aquarium scene after being a hobbyist himself for two decades. Although Mr. Vargas has done a lot already now he can add another feather to his cap as he secures one of only three speaking slots at ReefStock 2012, one of America’s best-attended one-day reefing events produced by Reef Builders.

Two Little Fishes will be presenting Mr. Vargas at ReefStock in Denver Colorado where he will be discussing in greater details some of the tenants of his book, with an emphasis not on how to set up a reef tank but what successful reef aquariums have in common. We can’t wait to see Tony’s talk and to let you all know who else will be speaking at ReefStock 2012. Stay tuned and if you plan on coming, be sure to RSVP on our Facebook event page.

I have the book and I was dissapointed. I thought it would be more detailed and it isn’t. The 1st section with general info is very vague and did nothing for me. The last section reads like a reefcentral tankofthemonth or build thread. I wanted Tony’s detailed experianced advise and unfortunately all I got was this is what this guy and that guy did and no critique or guidence…. I am on reefcentral all the time and didn’t need a book for that….

I am not sure I am reading the same book as ayef12. I found this book to be a great edition to my collection. You get information about lighting, pumps, and many other pieces of equipment that everyone can understand. The books goes over the fundamentals of reef-keeping in a great easy to read way. There are several Chapters highlighting different size aquariums. You get pictures and information about them. This is something I can never get enough of. This book is filled with useful information and not useless information like some books. This is a book I have started recommending to everyone. If you are new to the hobby or been in it a while you will learn something from this book.

I found this book to have a wealth of knowledge. The beginning talks about they types of aquariums and types of equipment. It headlines 3 factors, the spouse factor, money factor, and time factor. I found this very interesting and something I could definitely relate to. Each factor is broken down and explained thoroughly. Then is the decision process and the fundamentals associated with reef keeping. I don’t want to go through and break the whole book down, but it is a book I am proud to have in my saltwater library and one I will (and have) come back to often. I read it through the first time in a couple of days. I couldn’t put it down! Although I appreciate the knowledge and instruction of the first part of the book, my favorite part is the second half of the book. Here Tony takes different aquariums (many of them famous) and breaks them down; equipment, fish, corals, chemicals, etc. I was ecstatic to see Sanjay Joshi’s 500g and the 20,000g system at the Atlantis Marine World in Riverhead, New York.

This is a very informative book. Great read for everyone, regardless if your a beginner or advanced hobbyist. Take it as a necessity on your saltwater adventure. There is great info and a lot of photos of more up to date equipment, setting up the aquarium, aquascaping, and other reefing ideas.  Provides what other reefers are using for there equipment and maintenance schedules, so then you can get a ideas on what you may need to start a reef aquarium or like many hobbyist thoughts are, is to go bigger!

I am greatful to Tony the author of this book, he has become a saint in my opinion. I have read a lot of books regarding coral reef aquariums but this book has answers to all the questions, I would like to suggest all the saltwater aquarists, it will do wonders and make a great difference in the development of your corals, health of your fish, and the chemistry of your aquairum. This is just the RIGHT BOOK for all the beginners and also for the advanced hobbyists. Believe me after reading this book I am enjoying this hobby a lot before I was going through a lot of confusions and frustrations but now my concepts are very much clear and I am confident about my reef at home, I AM LOVING IT!!

Its the only book available to date, which has latest information on all the equipments one would like to use in his reef tank, to enhance the life and beauty.

I highly recommend this book, I have purchased the limited edition which has Tony’s autograph too. So hurry up, dont be confused when buying a book on reef aquariums, this is the RIGHT book one should have as a saltwater aquarist.

    Best of luck!
