Gnome Glass air skimmer advances with adjustable bracket and airstone position, still all glass

Air driven skimmers are gaining momentum in the nano and pico reef scene and Gnome Glass skimmers are some of the coolest, hand made glass designs you can buy. Recently Gnome Glass developed a method of making a bracket out of glass which allows the height of the skimmer to be adjusted to the water level in which it’s placed. Additionally, the new glass bracket allows the user to adjust the positioning of the airstone relative to the skimmer body, making possible even more fine tuning of the skimmate production.

glass air skimmerThe new glass mounting system works by slipping the glass mounting bracket and the glass airline feeding the airstone through glass tubing which is has a slightly larger inner diameter than the outer diameter of the glass hanger and airline. Tiny loops of silicone airline is stretched over each adjustable pipe to straddle the larger mounting tube. Better yet, this new mounting system makes it possible to easily replace either the mounting hook or the glass air pipe since both are straight and tapering at one end to feed through the adjustment t00b.

The newly adjustable Gnome Glass will be made in three sizes with different diameters and there is no specific tank ratings yet, but an estimate will be released in the future. The three sizes of Gnome Glass skimmers are 32, 38 and 44mm diameter for $70, $80 and $90 respectively. Gnome Glass makes all three sizes of the skimmers with a standard length of 25cm long (~10 inches) but they can be made 20cm long upon request. The new glass mount on the Gnome Glass skimmers are fairly intricate to make but they’re worth the extra $15 that it adds to the price of the bare glass skimmer. [Gnome Glass]

sorry dont see the point in having these nano skimmers made in glass, would’nt acrylic be better ?

     Acrylic is so passé~~

Sharp looking, but I wouldn’t buy one..looks to fragile and easily broken.

Why not? Do you normally go around beating up your skimmer? Anyway, they are made from borosilicate glass, which is what lab equipment and Pyrex dishes are made from. It’s pretty tough stuff, for glass.

No specific tank ratings yet? Their website clearly lists tank ratings:

The 32mm is intended primarily for pico and nano aquariums – it may be
used on aquariums up to 30 gallons which are lightly stocked, or up to
about 20 gallons for more moderate loads. The 38mm skimmer is
appropriate to 35 gallons lightly stocked, or 25 with moderate load. The
44mm will handle 45 gallons lightly stocked, or 35 with moderate load.
Larger, more powerful skimmers are coming soon.

it maybe, but so much stronger than glass.

No don’t beat up my skimmer lol but they do get knocked every so often when cleaning, and if these get knocked they look like they will break, even borosilicate glass although a little stronger can still break.
Thanks for mentioning the type of glass though.
