Aqua Craft two part plus magnesium reformulated for better quality

By on Sep 26, 2012

Aqua Craft has been around for a long time, providing dosing concentrates to aquariums around the world. The majority of their advertising used to be in print, but they seem to have started sponsoring some forums. Along with their increased online presence they will also have a booth at MACNA. To kick of their reinvigorated presence they have now also reformulated their two part plus magnesium formula.

Still made in the USA all the ingredients of the chemicals are now USP or ACP grade, meaning that you can be confident in the products quality. Along with the improved quality the Aqua Craft two part plus magnesium containers also have been given a facelift, and detailed instructions with a scientific measuring cup are included. Most of Aqua Craft’s other products still have their old school labels however. In this digital age with much improved graphic design, we have to give Aqua Craft big probs for that.

The reformulated Aqua Craft two part kit plus magnesium sells for $30.98 making around a gallon of two part and half a gallon of Magnesium. Calcium, Alkalinity and Magnesium are also available separately in several different sizes including 400 grams, 2 lbs, 7.5 lbs, and 30lbs for some seriously massive aquariums. The Calcium retails for $10.99, $16.99, $39.99, and $142.99 respectively. The Alkalinity retails for $8.49, $16.99, $39.99, and $142.99 respectively, and the Magnesium retails for $8.99, $16.99, $39.99, and $142.99 respectively. Products can be ordered directly from the Aqua Craft website.

Those prices are insane. I don’t see BRS having too much to worry about, I know I will still be buying my 3 part dosing suppliments from BRS for a fraction of the cost of these products. $8 from BRS for 2 gallons worth of 2 part last me over a year on my 2 tanks.

I respect your opinion CaliReefer, and think that BRS is a good source of some supplements and etc. However you can’t always compare two products that are designed for the same results based on price alone! AquaCraft’s quality and superior chemistry on their products, salt mixes etc has always been above almost any other product on the market. I wouldn’t doubt that if you tested BRS’s simliar products to the DIY Aquacraft line and you’ll find a larger number of contaminents and impurities inside of BRS compared to Aquacraft. Does this mean you can’t use BRS or it will kill your tank, NO.. but it does mean those exctra impurities are using up your filtration media, i.e. carbion, resin, or similar at a much faster rate than they would otherwise!!

I believe that BRS supplements are pharmaceutical grade. Are you saying that your products have a higher purity, and if so, can you document this? Also, since you’re claiming that the concentration of contaminents in a product rated pharmaceutical grade is adequate to affect filtration performance, can you provide evidence or documentation?

You get what you pay for, not only in the aquarium hobby, but with everything. BRS’ Mg is a gray color, made for concrete, paint etc, ACP’s Mg chloride flake is made FOR them to specs, it’s a white translucent flake that mixes very quickly. Mg in pharmaceutical grade is nonexistent you can’t get that anywhere. All in all you get what you pay for, if you go the less expensive route, you’re going to get quality that isn’t as good as a high cost product.
