The G3 Maxspect will be the third generation light fixture from the company which brought the aquarium hobby the first individually replaceable LEDs and the first fixture to also house multichip LEDs. The G3 Maxspect is very similar to the G2 but it features a redesigned housing with less plastic, and more polish and new dimming functions on top of the digital timer found on the G2 and G1 Maxspect units. Now before all the new G2 Maxspect owners start getting all up in a tizzy, the G3 will not be available until December at the earliest and it will basically be a fully loaded G2 fixture with all the reflector and lensing options coming standard. The only real difference between the G2 and G3 Maxspect will be the full dimming controls for each channel of LEDs, and the timer and dimmer controller being placed on one of the fixture instead of the driver.
Finsreef tells us that the G2 and G3 Maxspect LED lights will likely be sold right along side each other, and it will make lighting power users able to get the most features in a single package, with a single purchase. Like many new products featured at last week’s MACNA, the G3 Maxspect was an early development prototype and many features and details will be subject to change. As it stands, the G3 Maxspect is once again leading the charge on the feature set of LED lights and besides the lack of third party controller support or wireless connectivity, the G3 Maxspect is poised to deliver a kitchen sink’s worth of LED hotness.
