B-Box Aquarium is flaunting another fine rare reef fish specimen they have in stock, this time it’s the rare Rhinecanthus cinereus, the Mauritius triggerfish. We first wrote about this unusual picasso triggerfish when Yadokariya received some unusual fish from Mauritius earlier this year. With the exportation of this Rhinecanthus cinereus and in looking through the new arrivals of various Asian reef fish dealers, it seems that Mauritius exports have become more frequent, at least to Japan.
The purple and yellow Mauritius triggerfish is strongly reminiscent of the halfmoon triggerfish, Rhinecanthus lunula, but R. cinereus has an even more elongated appearance and a bright yellow tail. B-Box Aquarium is the vendor of this particulalry good looking Rhinecanthus cinereus and we hope they and other aquarium stores will also start offering unusual Mauritius endemic reef fish like the Mauritius flasher wrasse, tiger-tail coral beauties and of course you can never have too many gem tangs.
