R.E.E.F. Fuze is a new super glue from Brightwell Aquatics which is fluorescent yellow-green. Besides making super gllue super strong, sticky, and fast-setting, there’s not much that can be improved in the cyanoacrylate space, but Brightwell thinks that there is some value in having fluorescent super glue.
The thought behind having a fluorescent super glue is to be able to tell where the material was applied, where it was sticking, and to generally observe how well the coral was attached. Thanks to our abundance of fluorescence exciting blue aquaiurm lighting, the fluorescence of REEF Fuze is easy to see underneath our corals.
Perhaps the biggest selling point for a fluorescent super glue like REEF Fuze, is the pitch that the glowing green glue is easy to distinguish from the coral’s encrusting edge and should make it that much easier to eyeball the rate of coral growth. We’re kind of on the fence about how well this works in practice, but for certain coral groups it could be a really useful tool. At the very least, fluorescent yellow super glue is good bit easier to see than the clearish white stuff we currently use.
