Every once in a while we come across a reef tank that is fueled by unlimited resources. It’s been a long while since we’ve since an uncompromising reef aquarium setup but Reef 301 in Beverly Hills is one of those aquariums.
Custom Elos high clarity glass tank with mitered corners and chamfered edges, check. Custom MyReef Creation sump with 2001: A Space Odyssey motif, sliding water change reservoir, Pax Bellum & Spyglass reactors, check. Controllable dosing, return pumps, flow pumps & protein skimmer, yeah it’s all here.
The completely hand made ceramic reef scape is also one of a kind and definitely a cut above just using any old live or dry reef rock. Reef 301 even has a custom made LED light by AcroOptics which gives a blanket of multicolor light and programmable into three zones.
If you’re wondering where the splatoon chalice and crazy rainbow Acanthophyllia ended up, Reef 301 is where they live. That Abei angelfish and Bennet’s hogfish from the Coral Sea also ended up living here, as did the hybrid Liopropoma, many of Karen Brittain’s captive bred masked angelfish and Poma Labs’ captive bred conspicuous angelfish.
Needless to say, the owner of Reef 301 is an avid follower of Reef Builders and it shows with his exquisite selection of reef gear, rare fish and exotic corals. Big thanks to the owner of Reef 301 for letting us get up close and personal with his exquisite reef display, and to Joe Caparatta of Unique Corals who maintains the tank for the thorough walkthrough of what makes this tank work; we can’t wait to see what this tank turns into the next time we see it.
