Get into tropical marine fish identification and it won’t be long before you come across the fascinating world of interspecies hybrids. Jake Adams loved hybrids, one of the last messages he sent us was of a suspected hybrid Convict/Polyzona tang and his Reef Builders website has published literally hundreds of articles over the years.
Most angel hybrid identification is visual, and guesswork, and based on identifiable traits like orange vertical stripes or a blue snout from one of the parent species. But science can come into it too and provide much more concrete evidence via DNA testing. And when ichthyological heavy-weight KaiTheFishGuy’s scientific research met with Jake’s aquaristic musings it always made for a beautiful article.
So please read, reminisce, and go on the hunt for a few hybrids on sale in your LFS this weekend…
