Stick in a Box: Tunze Mangrove Box and black mangrove seedlings

26

We know you’ve been wanting to get something for that special reef aquarium in your life and with Tunze’s new Mangrove kit, you can now adorn your favorite reef with a stick in a box. That’s right, diamond rings and fancy cars don’t mean anything and the only way you can show your reef you truly care is with a stick in a box. Tunze’s mangrove box is the perfect place for your stick to grow, giving you year after year of lasting enjoyment. Tunze’s Mangrove Box is specially outfitted with the right base to make your black mangrove  grow into a big beautiful tree (in a box). The full Tunze stick in a box mangrove kit is priced at 54 Euro and the Black Mangrove seed pod is available separately for 29 Euro. Without the painful exchange rate or shipping we presume these kits will cost significantly less in the US since the black mangrove seed pods are being sustainably collected in Texas. The Tunze Mangrove Box will first be available in Europe where they love putting sticks in a box with American stick-in-a-box action to follow in the Fall.

LOL, actually what makes the Black Mangrove nicer than the Red is it is more of a “bush in a box”, it leafs out close to the substrate and has a short internode length so rather than an 18″ stick with no leaves, you have something that looks much more ornamental.

Why not just DIY to impress?

It’s easy to do, just follow these steps:
    1. Cut a hole in the box
    2. Put your seeds in that box
    3. Let em grow from the box

and that’s the way you do it.

what build is that tank? I like the thick walls with machine finished edges. Is it available in US?

But seriously didn’t Tunze just change the name of the hydroponic fresh water filter? I think they did!

The 3179 biohydro reactor is still available and it is about twice the depth and works by slowly trickling water over a deep media bed and the detritus of the prefilter is the carbon source for denitrification. This is a different unit but it is built from our standard “legos” as we call them. Most of our design system is modular and we take various parts and rearrange them to suit the need, this is essentially have a Comline box with the media and no feed water tap.

My guess is the tank is an HP aquarium, HP is a French aquarium manufacturer that is near the offices of Tunze France so we have a close relationship with them, they make very nice custom tanks but they don’t have any US distribution. They don’t use any bracing so the glass is necessarily thick, this is actually fairly typical of European tanks, and I have never understood where the term “euro braced” comes from as typically European tanks are usually only built to the depth that the glass can withstand with no bracing.

The lego aspect is something I have always liked about Tunze. It was/is a very wise move in regards to manufacturing.

Love the new product Roger and can’t wait for them to hit the US, black mangroves and all :)
