Ecoxotic PAR38 LED spotlight in all blue and 12K

By on May 24, 2010

The Ecoxotic PAR38 LED spotlight lamp is fresh off the boat and it bears an uncanny resemblance to the wildly popular PAR38 from NanoCustoms. Five Cree LEDs packing 21 watts are available in an all Royal Blue or in a 2:3 ratio of blues to whites. Ecoxotic’s websites describes “narrow angle focusing lens” which we’ll take to mean that the Ecoxotic PAR38 is rocking the same 40 degree optics that come with the stock PAR38 lamp from nanoCustoms. Although both lamps are 21 watters for $119, the Ecoxotic PAR38 does not come in a “20K” version with a 3:2 ratio of blues to whites which seems to be the most popular color from NanoCustoms and there is no option from Ecoxotic to get these lamps with different lens options such as 60 or 80 degree spread. The housing of the Ecoxotic PAR38 LED spotlight is available in any color you want as long as it’s black. More information on Ecoxotic’s PAR38 webpage.

Update: links fixed. thanks Reggie!

21W is marketing speak. There are only 15W worth of LEDS and the driver circuitry eats another 6W. So yes, the entire bulb draws 21W of power but some of that is lost in the power supply.

@Ron–marketing speak it may be, but at least it’s honest. Take a look at how much power an electronic 250W MH ballast actually pulls from a socket– it’s not 250W. It’s usually 20-30 Watts more of actual power usage.

@Ron: This isn’t exactly new news. This is the exact same product that we offer, save for the color and lack of options. Power draw is right around 21W, and the LEDs are driven to about 3.6W (~950mA). Assuming that just because it has Cree LEDs means that they are running at 3W exactly is wrong. I have clearly stated this in the past on a few different forums. But, as pickle stated, it’s an accurate representation of the total power draw of the lamp.

Please don’t buy this thing. Get an original from Nano-customs. Reward the innovator not the copier especially because they are the same price. This is nothing more than just a straight rip off.

Matt, I wouldn’t go as far to say this is “just a straight rip off”. You may not be informed but I’d look into finding out just who manufactures what light bulbs for whom.

I do think that Clive at nanocustoms sells (not makes) a wonderful product, but his is silver and these are black and to some people that might be important. I know I’ve ordered them from both companies and they’re truly awesome little lights.

I can almost guarantee that neither of these companies manufacture their own light bulbs in house and if they did one would be doing it for the other since they are the same product. Patent and design laws come into play. Bigger companies tend to make things for smaller companies not the other way around.

No offense to either of the companies but nobody innovated this, they ordered it in a certain color and labeled with their brand and sold it.

Please get facts straight before bashing companies or products. Oh how the misinformed continue to misinform.

I know that nanocustoms has them fabricated for them (small company), but this was Clive’s innovation. Check this out. This was from before he worked for nanocustoms http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=192645 (he’s EvilC66) The PAR38 starts on page 11. He started with PAR20 went to PAR30 and then finally PAR38. Additionally, the PAR38 started at 15 W and moved up to 21 W when he realized that the additional heat was able to be dispersed by the PAR38. Ecoxotic PAR38 is a straight rip off of this.
