New Vortech pump coming next week from Ecotech Marine

75

Ecotech Marine just fired off a newsletter email that has some pretty unambiguous wording about a new pump they will be releasing at MACNA next week. Ecotech said in the newsletter to “get pumped for something new” and to stop by the Ecotech Marine booth “to take a look at our exciting new product, and stay tuned for more!”. Clearly Ecotech will be showing off an exciting new water pump next week but what could it be?

The MP10 is brand new so we dont expect that pump to change. The MP20 was just discontinued but with the MP10 and MP40 overlapping in power quite a bit, we don’t see them bringing back an MP20 or MP25. The Vortech MP40 is definitely an older design so perhaps we’re in for a revamped version of the flagship with a Vortech MP41 or MP45. On the filpside, maybe Ecotech Marine has been working on the other end of the spectrum to produce a much larger water pump, a Vortech MP60, MP80 or even a super jumbo Hydro Wizard competitor Vortech MP100? We’ll keep our otoliths to the ground and let you know when we hear a peep.

Can ANYONE give me a reason why Ecotech should reduce their prices? That is an absurd argument to make. Just because consumers *want* to spend less, doesnt mean the company should not make their market profit. I want a Ferrari, but I dont sit around, complaining that they are making better and faster cars every year, and not making the 430 Spider cheaper so that I can buy it. If you want the premium, of anything, you pay for it. For EVERYTHING.

    Mr Maneyapanda,

Well from a pure economic standpoint if they reduce their price, they might actually sell more, even if its at a reduced profit per unit selling more units they might make more of an overall profit in the long run. Now it is a tricky game to be certain, if they’re making $15 profit per unit (I know they’re making quite a bit more or they’d be broke by now) then it wouldn’t work, but if they’re making $200 per unit and sales are slowing up, dropping the price by $100 could help if they sell more than twice as many units.

Maybe instead of them lowering prices they could remove their minimum advertised price requirement, and let the middle man set the price. That could be win-win since they get the same amount of money on each unit they sell to retailers, and consumers could shop around for cheaper products, potentially more sales in total.

But I agree, they have a unique product out there, there’s nothing out there like it in terms of what it is, and surprising not even cheap chinese knockoffs, so they do control the market and can do whatever they want. Unlike Tunze, you see many other brands go for much cheaper versions of the mass flow at low power pump, granted not as well as Tunze often but it does allow consumers a choice if they want to go with cheap or “quality” (arguably), Vortechs there is no choice if you want a low profile no wire in the tank pump.

    Mike,

I appreciate the input, but I respectfully disagree. Arguing theoretically potential economics, without any of the numbers, is a moot issue. If Ecotech Marine decides to do that, so be it, they have all the figures in front of them. But, consumers suggesting they do so is foolish- we have no idea what the economics of this company are. Furthermore, thiat is all based on the premise that Ecotech is “hurting” for sales. I doubt this is true. Sure, they’d like MORE sales (as every company would), but Im sure theyve investigated they business models.

As for MAP, you example would also reduce the number of distributors notably, too. A store will be less likely to spend the money to buy a product if they know the bigger store across the street can sell them cheaper. This cut throat economics wont foster universal and widespread distribution.

My overall point is, I dont understand why, as consumers we can expect, and then be dissapointed, if the company doesnt reduce prices. Now of us would, if we were in their shoes.

Oh, the sense of entitlement. It’s a luxurious toy that’s completely unnecessary for you to own. If you don’t like the price, don’t buy it!

If a company is forced to reduce the price then they will have to look at ways of saving money to stay in business, this leads to poor quality and there is plenty of cheap poor quality over promised products on the market already.

I do not think the Good American buying public are blind to think that a company hikes prices just to line their pockets, in this economy and “Walmart syndrome” world we live in, manufacturers have to price as low as possible.

We all want something for nothing, but sit back and think about the company at pains to try and keep up with these crazy consumer demands.

Accept the price for what it is, believe in the quality and if you dont like the price find a cheap alternative and “hope” it lasts.

There is also a mass missconception that products no matter what the product is or what purpose that say assembled in USA are American products! Sadly not the case always, assembled maybe, but not produced, so which ever way you look at it, your still buying from abroad ;)

I have heard a few times that there Ecotech has a minimum price that retailers can sell the pumps for, this is false. If it were the case it would be HIGHLY illegal, no company is allowed to dictate or set a price another company can sell their product for. I am pretty sure that would be creating a monolpy and we would be dealing with anti-trust issues. They can however had a policy about advertised prices and if that is the case the company can simple do the “Click Here To See Price”, which is very very common on the net.

im more curious as to what type of new product they are going to unveil, is it comparable to a seaswirl or will it just be a bigger version like an mp100 or something like that? im more intersted in a water mover that moves like a sea swirl, if ecotech is releasing something like that at the show i will be impressed…… as far as price, its real simple ” YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR”
