Sometimes aquarium heaters fail . . .

. . . and sometimes they fail catastrophically. We’d like to point out that the Ebo Jager in this destroyed sump was not the cause of this fire.

    I has the old model of stealth heater thermometer f* up on me and caused a clients tank to go to 99 degrees F.

    Marineland covered the cost of all the lost livestock, but the liverock was ruined, aptasia survived, and it took a long time as the client decided not to empty tank as this would have cost more. So we recycled it with many water changes and filter changes.

    Don’t get me wrong, Marineland heaters are great, but if one can afford a controller like a Blue-Line use that on either a heat stick or on a regular sub heater. They are worth the $65-75. And they are more accurate and in my opinion easier to use.

    Otherwise, keep an eye on your tank.

    So what did cause that? That had to take a lot of heat, basically a fire, there is no way even a massively oversized heat being stuck in the on position could do that… well ok unless it was forgotten for so long all the water boiled/evaporated away and then the heater melted the plastic and somehow caused a fire(however if that was the case you as an aquarium owner have bigger issues)
