Orphek Nilus LED is a 120 watt multicolor SPS coral light

By on Feb 22, 2012

The Orphek Nilus is an interesting LED aquarium fixture which has just popped up for sale at Marine Depot. Loaded up with no fewer than four LED colors, the Orphek Nilus boasts 30 White LEDs, 22 Blue LEDs, 4 Red LEDs and 4 UV/true violet LEDs. The Orphek Nilus is differentiated from its white predecessor with an all black enclosure, black cord and the all black timer box.

Priced at $900 for 120 watts, the Orphek Nilus will have some stiff competition from Ecotech Marine’s feature-rich 130 watt Radion XR30w which is priced at $750. However since the Orphek Nilus has 60 LEDs spread over a wider surface area, the Orphek could provide better spread with more overall lumens, and those UV/True Violet LEDs are an added bonus for eeking out even more colors from the SPS corals for which this light was designed.

I’m not sure I’m following you with the more lumen thing since it’s lower power and lower efficiency LEDs (probably not CREE). Since Lumens are light power densities, you really can’t have a better spread and better power densities for overall weaker optical power.

Funny they add red now since Mike Maddox was telling us Orphek had super LED technology with just the right amount red power in the white led spectrum hehe.

120 degree lenses, isn’t that the same spread as most standard lenses on (Cree) LED ?

Yeah, but they got optics now the fixture should sell better for them.:)
optics are useless, a way of reducing the number of leds and make the light look bright by reducing the coverage and focusing the light for discoball effect.
What happened to mad mike anyway?

Wait, wasn’t Orphek’s line always that their original spectrum was the most complete it could be and perfect for corals…? Nice to see that they’re stuck to their guns after attacking so violently in the first place.
