GHL Mitras gets refined ahead of release, announces preorder pricing

The upcoming GHL Mitras LX 6100 LED light got a bit more refined ahead of its release this fall along with announcing special preorder pricing if you place your order before August 30. The final version of the Mitras LED light will feature nine separate, dimmable channels with the addition of the additional channel of neutral white LEDs. On top of the boost in white, they increased the level of hyperviolet LEDs from two to six hitting in the 425nm wavelength. The final numbers boast up to 72 high-power LEDs in the Mitras fixture. You can also add narrow beam reflectors and additional hyperviolet LEDs to the mix.

So what about this preorder pricing? GHL North America is offering a 15% saving by preodering the light between now and August 30 bringing the cost down to $1,019. The suggested MAP should be around $1,199 when the Mitras start shipping. The preorders will go in two waves. If you order between now and July 31, you should receive your Mitras the first week of September (in time to go to MACNA and brag how ‘bitchin’ your Mitras is!). If you order between August 1 and August 30, you’ll get your light around four weeks later (no bragging rights at MACNA).     Light distribution:
    A homogeneous illumination is as important as a high light performance. Our engineers determined the best possible arrangement of the LEDs and design of the reflectors through extensive computer simulations and practice tests. With the goal to achieve an optimized illumination the LEDs have been arranged in 2 x 3 evenly spread clusters and all LEDs in one cluster are placed with a minimal clearance to each other. Additionally the clusters had been brought to the edge of the lamp as near as possible. The results are convincing:

    Ideal mixing of the single LED-colors, the light in the aquarium has no disturbing color spots
    Uniform illumination over a wide area
    Efficient heat dissipation over the heat sink

    Thanks, thats very helpful, but can you tell me what happens to the PAR at 70cm. I assume since there are recommendations for max depth that some type of PAR measurements were used. If the tank depth is roughly 75 cm (typical for a large tank) I would rather purchase a unit with a max bottom area with standard reflectors. I don’t want to have to augment lighting on an upgrade :)

    The max bottom area is quoted as the useful light with Cree XTE diodes you have nothing really to worry about penetrable depth with the Mitras. The PAR was also done on the original spec before the addition of the extra diodes.

    The above light distribution paragraph also is of importance.

    If concerned you can go with the narrow beam reflectors where also NO spotting is present.
