Skimz TurboMagnum skimmer targets all but the largest of aquaria with improved venturi design

By on Sep 24, 2012

The Skimz ST300 and Skimz St600 TurboMagnum skimmers are Skimz latest skimmers focused at all but the largest aquaria. Massive skimmers are always cool, especially is they offer some nifty features.  The Skimz ST300 is the smaller of the two build for aquariums in the 1600 gallon range (6000 liters), while the Skimz St600 is aimed at aquariums in the 6340 gallon range (24000 liters). With the skimmers feature a ‘Super Mixer Injector” (SMI), along with “advanced bubble plate technology”.

The Super Mixer Injector is claimed to offer a 50% increase in air intake over other conventional venturi, and the “advanced bubble plate technology” is designed to significantly reduce the turbulence inside the reaction chamber increasing effectiveness. How the Super Mixer Injector and bubble plate work is not exactly clear but in these videos they seem to be working quite well with the skimmer pulling a lot more air than we expected.

The Skimz ST300 is fitted with one 0.5k watt pump, pulling an impressive 4500 liters of air per hour. The Skimz ST600 is fitted with two 0.5 watt pumps pulling 9000 liters of air. Both skimmers are designed for aquaculturists, commercial farms, large public aquariums, and aquatic wholesalers. Check out the Skimz ST300 and Skimz ST600 in action below.

    0.5k watt pump? Couldn’t just say 500 watt … that’s a hefty pump!

From anecdotal reports around our local reefing network Skimz should put some effort into resolving the issues with skimmer pump performance of their smaller products.
