Sunlight Supply is handing out free samples of a new additive called Pure Marine. Made by Evolution Aqua, Pure Marine is a bacterial treatment and water clarifier which looks more or less like large tapioca beads. Each package of Evolution Aqua Pure Marine contains 50 beads, everyone of which treats about 3 gallons of water. There’s not that much first hand experience with the product but its been popular in the UK for quite some time and if it does what it claims, we imagine Pure Marine could culture a following in the US too.

“bacterial treatment and water clarifier”, which is almost exactly what any basic carbon-source dosing can do (bio beads, vodka, vitamin C dosing, etc). I wonder if this is a gelatin based product, which I’d suspect has a similar effect in the water.

    This looks to be promising.

I’m looking forward to hearing more about this product. Any links?

If these are the same as the aquarium ball line of theirs then they do nothing for nitrates so if you already have live rock etc then you already have more than enough nitrite and ammonia bacteria filter area. Also they have to be replaced every week which to me is a rather expensive and triesome exercise. I don’t know about you but I already have enough tasks with water changes, sock replacements, trace element replacement, other media replacements etc without adding another once a week task to the list!
