The GrowSpot is an LED Grow Light in a spotlight form factor from Sunshine Systems, the makers of the popular GrowUFO grow light for hydroponic and horticultural use. The GrowSpot LED comes in four colors that stimulate different parts of plant’s growth cycle; the blue GrowSpot is designed for early vegetative growth, the red model encourage blooming, there is a daylight white so you can actually see what your plants are doing and the mixed spectrum lamp borrows a little color from the other three models to get a little of effect from each group of wavelengths.
Sunshine Systems is marketing the 12 watt LED grow light as being equivalent to a 150 watt metal halide but if we are not yet convinced that the 30 watt Kessil A150w LED is punching as much PAR as a 150 watt halide, there is no flippin way this twelve watt LED is comparable to a small double ended halide lamp. We don’t know what kind of one -fifties the hydro guys are using but our 150 watt reefing metal halides easily outshine three or four of these GrowSpots. Either way, the LED GrowSpot may be targeted for spotlighting of tomatoes and peppers but we know what they are really intended for, growing corals.
Sunshine Systems’s LED GrowSpot grow light screws into a regular E26 socket and they are available for $80 at your local grow shop and online.
