The Reef Octopus Diablo DC pump is the company’s first in-house designed controllable water mover. With DC water pumps surging in popularity for aquarium use, Reef Octopus is building on the successes of their speedwave-derived DC skimmer pump and building a new pump from the ground up.There will be a range of Diablo DC pumps, the first one to be showed off by CoralVue is the Diablo DC 5500S skimmer pump which uses 45 watts of power while drawing an astounding 2400 liters of air per hour.
Although carrying the same moniker as the OEM Diablo DC 5500s pump, the new all-white prototype has a completely different body, volute and controller. The Diablo DC 5500s controller bears the same features as before, with feed mode and ramp up, ramp down but in a smaller acrylic package.
We hope the look of this ‘new and improved’ Diablo DC pump is more than skin deep because we’d love to see DC pumps gain some ground in the aquarium market. More developments in the DC water pump space means more choice for everybody and a competition of features and reduced pricing. For now the Diablo DC-powered skimmers will still be using the old ‘current gen’ DC water pumps but we might be able to see Reef Octopus in house water mover deploying across the brand in the future.
