We’re only three months into 2017 and already we’ve seen a ton of great new corals in exciting colors and patterns. Thankfully, the eye-popping corals of ’17 haven’t been all of just one variety of coral, and there’s been exciting strains for all manner of coral aficionados.
Of course we’ve been blown away by a couple incredible new chalice corals, the Splatoon Chalice from Aquatic Art and the Fireball Echinomorpha from Reefmaster Indonesia. Also, the SPS coral heads were left reeling with one of the very few colored-polyp strains of Anacropora we’ve ever seen from Reef Raft Canada.
The Aurora Mushroom from Sea Dwelling Creatures definitely turned a lot of heads but if we had to pick one most radical new coral strain is has to be those ‘sick’ St. Patrick’s Day Snake Polyps. And we’re not just saying that because a frag of it ended up in our personal collection, but truth be told this is one of the most exotic zoanthid strains, especially for an uncommon species like Isaurus.
If 2017 continues to follow in the footsteps of the first quarter, we’re expecting to see quite some wild and crazy corals throughout the year. If you’ve come across some corals that you think should make the final five for the next quarter, definitely be sure and send us a tip because we can’t find all the coolest corals without your help!
