CoraVue Reef Octopus HOB Skimmer

CoralVue is teasing with images of their newest additions with two Octopus HOB protein skimmers that should be available on the market soon. The two models appear to be the LX-1000 and LX-2000 rated at 100 and 150 gallons respectively incorporating smaller versions of the Bubble Blaster pumps we brought you earlier.  The Reef Octopus LX-1000 looks to feature the Bubble Blaster HY-1000 mounted internally in the skimmer with the Reef Octopus LX-2000 sporting the HY-2000 externally on the bottom of the skimmer unit. We weren’t able to dig up the exact specs on the HY-1000 but the HY-2000 appears to pull 50 SCFH at 30w for about 550 GPH of water movement as installed on the Reef Octopus XP-2000 cone skimmer so there should be similar numbers on the HOB models. From the pictures of the new models, both HOB skimmers look to use the pumps to pull water from the tank as well. These skimmers don’t appear shy either, sporting fire engine red acrylic in their design. No word on the exact release date or final price tag but a few vendors are listing this as coming soon with a possible December release.

No way of hiding that HOB skimmer. No matter where you are in the room, you’ll see the skimmer :(

We’ll have to see if that is the final production model color, a clear or a smokey gray would help blend in with the tank.

Those look like they will work very nicely.

I wouldn’t go with red though, I would think a nice blue or black.

@ Brian. Why would they make a pre-production model out of more costly acrylic?
