Fauna Marin LPS pellet coral food quickly eaten by a Scolymia australis

20

The LPS Pellet coral food by Fauna Marin sure seems to elicit a strong feeding response in this Scolymia australis. As you can see in the video above by our sponsor Cherry Corals, within less than 90 seconds of sprinkling some of Fauna Marin’s LPS pellet onto it’s oral disc the Scolymia has dilated it’s mouth, collapsed the tissue surrounding the gastrovascular cavity (GVC) forming a space to ingest the pellets and then expanded the outer mantle to seal in the tasty LPS pellet morsels. We’re not quite sure what flavor properties the Fauna Marin LPS pellet might be made from but this shiny Scolymia australis definitely got the memo.

I’m not trying take anything away from Fauna Marin’s pellet coral food at all, but anyone familiar with keeping Scoly’s know that they are some of the fastest reacting lps corals to food that we keep in our systems. Feeding PE mysis to Scoly’s, or merely putting Cyclop-eeze into a system with these corals elicits the same, fast acting feeding action from them as long as they’re healthy.

Jeremy I agree with you regarding the response time of scolies to fresh or frozen food. However I used to try to feed them pelleted food all the time and that response was usually lackluster.

I love PE mysis and still use it but in this case the pellet wins hands down for sheer speed.

Agreed, you usually don’t get that kind of response time out of pellets!

That’s impressive. One of my largest complaints about feeding LPS is that my fish, shrimp, or crabs usually get the food before the coral can open its mouth and eat it.

These pellets look like a great solution!

Hmmm I’ve been feeding my lps pellet food for a while now… PRIOR ART! DAMN YOU ORBITE… er wait wrong thread ;)

I have a lobo that if you put so much as anything on it, feeders will come out shortly after all along the rim.

I have fed Rainbow Scolmias pelleted food for some time and they always react like that. They also react that way to scent attractants such as garlic combined with defrosted whitebait or mussel juices. Once the polyps are everted you can feed them whatever you like. Just make sure that if feeding pellets that you check the product label ingredients for traces of copper as many manufacturers include this toxic to inverts additive.

Sorry, no ordinary pellet or mussel creates this sort of feeding response.

    It just doesn’t.

LPS food from Fauna Marin is quite unique.
