Ecoxotic’s 120 watt Cannon LED Pendant hits production

By on Apr 14, 2012

Ecoxotic’s 120 watt cannon LED light recently hit production after we first spied it using vapor filled heat pipes last year. The 120 watt cannon is powered by a multi-chip LED with an integrated driver for easier installation. The larger cannon will penetrate water depths over 30 feet in three different variants including a 5K, 10K or 253NM blue.  The specifications seem very similar to the 100 watt cannon LED that has been very popular with aquarists and larger aquariums but with the added boost of 20 additional watts. We don’t have a retail price but we would assume the 120 watt cannon LED has a higher starting price than $499—which happens to be the retail price of the smaller 100 watt version.  Anyone have a depth of over 30 feet they would like to illuminate? Hobbyists might not, but public aquaria folks are probably drooling at the mouth right now. More pictures below the break.

We just added one of these (453nm) to the cannon rig we use at the store and it is a pretty sweet light, very intense and great spread. We are using 3x 50w 12k cannons, 1x100w 453nm and one 120w 453nm over about a 4′x5′ area with very nice results for our sps

How do you think that this Light will compare to the new Kessil A350 coming out?

    So how are they different?

Maybe not space, but I am pretty sure if I pointed one up at the flight path above the store we would have more than a couple pissed off pilots and a visit from some gentlemen in black suits.

This fixture is meant for tanks up to 30 FEET deep, not 30 inches. It is made for PUBLIC aquariums that need to light VERY large tanks.

The Kessil is meant for HOME aquariums that aren’t that deep. The Kessil  also has some tuning features built in.

Again, totally different lights for different applications. Ecoxotic has always said they don’t recommend the Canons on tanks shallower than 36″. They are meant to penetrate deep tanks.
