The first images of the next generation Aqua Illumination modular LED light have just started to show that this beast is now out in the wild. We call this light fixture a beast because it includes the latest and greatest Light Emitting Diodes from Cree; the XP-G series which feature longer life and higher light intensity at a given current, up to 30% brighter than the previous Q5 series Cree XR-E LEDs. Although this revision of the Aqua Illuminations light was originally slated to be simple product refresh with better heat-sinking, a revamped design and newer circuitry that could ship out back in October, when the XP-G LEDs started shipping to manufacturing partners Aqua Illuminations decided to hold back the new light so that they could incorporate the new XP-G LEDs into the second generation of their flagship LED light. With the new LEDs Aqua had to go also use newer lenses which pushed the ship date back even further. The arrival of these images indicates that AI has indeed begun to ship their next generation light to consumers, although the recent AquaIllumination blog post gives no indication on what percentage of orders are being filled before this holiday season. We’ve got a lead on some of these lights headed to our neck of the woods very soon and we’ll be sure to get back to you when we see the new AI light for ourselves.
