The Orphek Super Blue LED Atlantik Slimline LED is a very interesting new light that could make some real waves in supplemental lighting. The super blue Atlantik Slimline was all but overshadowed by the Atlantik V3 and Kaspian LED lights that were also unveiled at MACNA 2015.
Orphek has always had a unique taste in blue light spectrum using LEDs and the Atlantik Slimline is the embodiment of this, with a completely different approach to offering supplemental blue lighting for reef tanks. The Atlantik Slimline is not your average ‘skinny girl’ led striplight with a thick heatsink that passively cools the high powered LEDs.
The thickness of the Atlantik Slimline is further widened by large convex lenses that can disperse the strong blue light over a wide area while also pushing it quite deep in the water. The Atlantik Strip uses dual chip LEDs under each lens, with an alternating royal blue and ultra violet color which makes corals look absolutely stunning.
By now you’ve probably seen a nice crop of corals lit under just blue LED lighting, but the Atlantik Slimline spectrum is really really deep. It has a color more akin to old school Actinic 03 tubes, but with the power for one strip to light up a much larger area than a single tube.
In a sea of overly blue-lit tank, the corals that we saw lit up with the deep blue Atlantik Slimline LED was pretty astounding. We imagine that Orphek will eventually use the Atlantik Slimline in a range of colors and sizes, but for now they’ve really got something special with the deep blue and fluorescent flavor that they teases us with first.
