What happens when you get a group of scuba girls together and attempt a Guinness World Record?? One of the most epic days underwater full of laughter and new friends 😀 Luckily I was able to attend the event, and event got to speak about corals later in the day.
May 30th 2018, will go down in the history books as 48 girls suited up and took the plunge to attempt a Guinness World Record for most female divers underwater at one time. The goal, make a seven-layer pyramid full and try to avoid the bubbles from so much laughter.
Before hitting the water we spent time carefully briefing the pyramid assigning each girl a number and row in the structure. I mean what could possibly go wrong?! To our delight the pyramid was a success, albeit a little lopsided, but we still managed to photograph everyone in a single frame.
The record-setting day took place in Gili Trawangan Island, one of the three Gili islands of the west coast of Lombok Indonesia. This was part of a full day event called Girls That Scuba Day.
After the dive we came back to Manta Dive shop of Gili T where girls could signup for a free into to tech diving course, or spend the afternoon by the pool making new friends. It was really fun to meet so many like-minded ladies, and chat to everyone about scuba diving and corals reefs.
As the day settled down, we headed upstairs for the Manta cafe, where I was able to give a thirty minute presentation, how to see the reef with new eyes and how to become a coral spotter. It’s always great to share this message especially with the many dive professionals who attended.
