One of the funnest parts of the reef aquarium hobby is the unlimited creativity it affords us to express our vision for a perfect or personal reef tank. Our latest featured reef tank video is the purest embodiment of this principle with the very original Bonsai Acropora Reef aquarium of Yoshi Fujisawa.
Yoshi-san is one of the senior coral handlers at Ultra Coral Australia in Mackay and as such, has a blank check to keep and grow all the corals he desires to put in his reef tank. This is a great learning opportunity for the collector to know more about how their wild corals are transformed into aquarium corals, a topic spearheaded by this year’s Keynote Speaker at MACNA, Vincent Chalias.
We don’t just love the look of Yoshi-san’s Japanese bonsai and nature-inspired ‘lifted aquascape’ but also how it is achieved with an original assortment of smart reef products, but not a controller in sight. Yoshi’s reef was our first encounter with the Neptunian Cube tank/stand/sump combination and he’s outfitted it with some great gear like the Maxspect Recurve, Gyre pumps, and the first time we’ve seen the Maxspect Turbine Duo used with a chiller like it was designed for.
At nine months old Yoshi’s Bonsai Acro Tank has already become a full on coral garden with more coral diversity than many reef aquarium stores! It doesn’t hurt when you live ‘on’ the Great Barrier Reef and work for a coral collector but it sure is nice when a tank like Yoshi’s really lives up to its full potential.
