We have previously written about the excellent field guides produced by Russel Kelley over the past decade and a half. Known for his iconic Coral Finder as well as his engaging workshops, Mr. Kelley continues to blow us away with his latest endeavor, the Octocoral Finder. [BYOGUIDES]
An Australian native of the Queensland coast, Mr. Kelley has spent a majority of his life diving across the Great Barrier Reef while developing an exhaustive knowledge on a wide range of coral groups, genera and species. His Coral Finder guide is the best recommendation we can make to anyone wanting to learn more about coral identification. His field guides break down the information in a very approachable manner for aquarists, naturalists and divers alike.
When we spoke with Mr. Kelley in June of 2024, the Octocoral Finder was in the design phase. “The Octocoral Finder will be great for both field biologists and aquarists, and like the Coral Finder will reference the scientific literature responsible for the name changes for further learning. Most importantly it will be the only up-to-date practical tool that promotes an appreciation of the amazing diversity of tropical octocorals.”

We have our copy on order and can’t wait to add this latest release to our library. Every engaged reef keeper should have Mr. Kelley’s ID Guides close at hand. You can order yours directly from the publisher. While you are there, add the Coral Finder if you don’t already own a copy. https://byoguides.com/products/octocoral-finder
