The PMUP from Neptune Systems is an interesting water pump with a curious form factor. Despite bilge-style pumps having been around for many years, the PMUP is the first of its kind marketed to reef aquarists but it’s about time because there’s a reason these style of pumps are very popular for other applications.
The cylindrical form factor gives the PMUP a small cross section, meaning that it is small enough to fit into tight spaces, even the opening of a typical 5 gallon water jug. Also, the bottom-mounted inlet of the PMUP allows it to draw water down to a very low level.
Up until now the PMUP had only been the purview of Apex users with a 1Link module or an Energy Bar 832. But Neptune Systems has just announced that the PMUP will now ship with its own power supply, so for $39 everyone can enjoy the benefits of having the unique style of the PMUP for a variety of aquarium applications.
