It doesn’t matter who you are, as humans we all love being able to do more with less. This is why we love great deals and coupons, why many of us drive SUVs that never go offroad, and precisely why the MaxSpec Turbine Duo strikes a chord with so many reefers.
The thought of being able to invest in one pump with two powerful outlets is a godsend for electrically demanding reef tanks. Of course we know by now that controllable DC pumps are much more efficient than their AC counterparts, but being able to use just a single outlet with a Turbine Duo is also a plus.
Although you get two outlets you can only adjust the speed of the single motor, which will impact both outlets at the same time. However this shouldn’t be too much of an issue in a setup where one loop is returning water to the tank and the other is supplying a chiller and manifold.
In this promotional video Maxspect demonstrates the various ways that a twinhead DC pump can be employed to run many different components of a reef tank. They might be stretching the imagination of how much you can get from the current model – we’d never run a manifold after a chiller for example – but there’s little chance that this will be the only model in Maxspect’s catalog, so who knows how widespread and versatile these double outlet pumps might become.
