Royal Exclusiv has one of the most expansive catalogs of protein skimmers in the reef aquarium hobby and today it’s getting just a little bit larger. The Mini Bubble King 160 is the newest protein skimmer from RE and it’s also the smallest controllable protein skimmer from the famed German manufacturer.
The new Mini Bubble King 160 is powered by the 12V DC Red Dragon 6 needle wheel pump which has a maximum power rating of 25 watts. The body of the Mini Bubble King is the same size as the MBK 160 VS12 which uses an AC Red Dragon with 600lph air draw and 1,000 lph of water. With the new DC Red Dragon 6 pump the BKM 160 has been substantially upgraded in performance with nearly double the air at 1,000lph and more than double the water going through it at 2,500 lph!
This is the difference that the right kind of DC pump design can have over their alternating current counterparts however, the $949 price from Royal Exclusiv is almost the same as the AC model. The specs of Royal Exclusiv’s new Mini Bubble Kind 160 are even more impressive when you consider the tiny footprint of this skimmer at just 10 by 7 inches square, but it can handle tanks between 50 and 135 gallons.
