Giant clams are the jewels of the reef and of reef aquariums but for all their glory, we spend way too little time talking about Tridacna clams. It’s been a while since we’ve touched on them, but at a recent visit to DeJong Marinelife in Holland, the Hybrid Gramma dejongi was not the only extraordinary reef life. While at DeJong Marinelife we also saw some nice examples of those awesome Maxima clams from Tuamotu, and it reminded us of how exceptional these bivalves are. There’s something about the dizzying array of colors, patterns and diversity of appearances of Tuamotu Maxima clams that is among the best for the species Tridacna maxima. Keep reading to see some of our top pick specimens of Tuamotu Maxima clams we saw at DeJong Marinelife.

i beg to differ. cook island’s aqua-cultured maximas own those every day of the week…they are nice, but certainly not unbeatable.
