The Great White skimmer from Dalua Australia has been a sleeper hit in protein skimming performance and value, and an improved DC version will soon be released. At ReefStock Australia Dalua will show off their first controllable protein skimmer which has been updated with quieter and more powerful pump, as well as some other refinements to improve the user experience.
The use of a controllable DC pump is the most dramatic change to the Dalua Great White skimmer which will now enjoy the benefits of direct current needle wheel air & foam production. We don’t yet have specifics on how much more air draw or water flow rate we can expect from the new DC versions of the Great White, but some other improvements are more obvious to see.
The most obvious cosmetic difference is a circular air silencer that is built into the next which both removes the once-external air silencer but more importantly makes is much larger and effective at silencing the low frequency sucking sounds. With this larger and integrated air silencer also comes a more secure method of attaching the cup to the neck of the Great White Skimmer using a twisting, bayonnet locking mechanism.
We’ve also learned that the neck is going to enjoy a slightly wider diameter to accomodate more foam from the powerful needle wheel DC pump which should also improve the stability of the internal water level. We know there will be a Great White DC 7, 12 and some larger models and it will carry a modest premium over its more standard AC predecessor, which will still be available alongside the newer DC version, and look forward to getting the complete run down at ReefStock Australia later this month in Sydney.
