The Nuvo 200 EXT and INT are two new all glass aquarium models from Innovative Marine which represent their largest tank offerings to date. It certainly shows a degree of confidence on IM’s part in the power and popularity of a six foot, 200 gallon tank to succeed in the aquarium market by making not one but two models of this beefy, premium aquarium.
The Nuvo 200 is essentially the same tank in two different desirable configurations; the 200 INT has the conventional internal overflow box, albeit with a slim profile and modern arrangement of the plumbing features. Meanwhile the 200 EXT – our personal pick – has an external overflow box with a similarly practical plumbing design.
The INT version of the Nuvo 200 enables the tank to be located right against the wall and all the plumbing goes straight down into the stand underneath. The EXT Nuvo 200 can’t go flush against the wall but the plumbing is very easy to access but the uninterrupted back wall makes for the best aquascaping dimensions. Speaking of which, the footprint of the Nuvo 200s is just under six feet long at 71 inches long, it’s a little on the short side at 22 inches high but it really leans into the high surface area category with a width of 30 inches.
The final real design difference between the INT and EXT is the positioning of the return nozzles or holes, with them being centrally mounted from the internal overflow in the INT, and plumbed through the bottom of the tank. Meanwhile in the EXT model the return holes are drilled into the back and positioned at opposite ends of the back wall corners, which makes it easier to plumb and really helps to get some different angles for water flow coming into the display.
The tanks themselves are built to quite a durable standard with a 22mm bottom plate, 19mm Ultra Clear Low Iron Glass for the walls and a 15mm Eurobrace to tighten up all the bonds, and it’s also made of clear low iron glass for good measure. The stand for both the Nuove 200 EXT & INT is the same trusted APS stand with the trusted metal construction, but these stands now come with winged doors – there’s the usual three in the front but they’ve also added them to the side ends of the tank for easier access to all areas inside.
The tank and Stand price for each of the Nuvo 200 INT & EXT is $3999.99 and Innovative Marine is currently taking pre-orders with 15% discount as an introductory offer of $3399.99. This pricing is very comparable to the similarly sized and priced 900 XXL and Reef Pro 220 yet it offers something actually unique with its coral-forward large surface area.
Innovative Marine is currently taking orders on their website and the two versions of the Nuvo 200 will begin shipping at the end of February 2020. As an aside, Innovative Marine has historically always at least offered some if not all of the support equipment for every tank size that they sell, but we’ve yet to learn about any devices in this size class. It’s a reasonable assumption that by the time the Nuvo 200s start rolling out, we’ll start hearing more about Innovative Marine’s plans for helping their users outfit such a large and ambitious aquarium size.
